The vice-president and councilor for public works of the Calabria region, Filippo Mancuso, met, in the headquarters of the regional citadel of Catanzaro, the representatives of the municipalities of the province of Vibo Valentia interested in the financing program intended for the redevelopment of inhabited centers, the maintenance of roads, the improvement of water and sewerage networks and the arrangement of sports facilities, cemeteries, squares and public spaces.

During the initiative, all the problems inherent to this financing were addressed to enable the municipalities to start immediately with the projects and related works. This closes the administrative phase of the 19 million euro programme, born from an amendment to the previous Budget Law presented by the president of the Budget Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Giuseppe Mangialavori.

45 million destined almost exclusively for the province of Vibo

“In total – explained vice-president Mancuso – this is approximately 45 million euros destined almost exclusively to the province of Vibo Valentia, with the involvement of some municipalities belonging to the other Calabrian provinces. The resources will be used for local building interventions, maintenance and improvement of roads, redevelopment of squares and the construction of public works that are particularly important for the territories involved.
Today we highlighted how these investments, initially distributed over the years from 2025 to 2029, can be brought forward thanks to the desire of the Calabria Region to encourage the disbursement of the sums. This will allow the Municipalities to immediately start the planning and implementation of the interventions, without waiting for the expected deadlines. This is a significant contribution, which could have a concrete impact on the development and improvement of the quality of life in small centers receiving substantial funding”.

During his speech, vice president Mancuso wanted to recognize the decisive role played by Mangialavori in finding the resources allocated to the program.

“It is right – he said – to highlight that this financing arises from an amendment presented by the Honorable Mangialavori to the Budget Law – said Mancuso – underlining the value of an intervention that mobilizes a total of around 45 million euros, one of the most significant measures in favor of Calabrian municipalities in recent years”.

“This is an initiative – he continued – which has been able to put the needs of local communities at the centre. This allocation offers us the possibility of further strengthening the work that the Region is carrying out to support local authorities, make territories more welcoming and improve the quality of services offered to citizens.
We wanted to meet the mayors and municipal administrators today also to share the operational methods of the program. Since the financing is spread over the years 2025 to 2029, it is necessary to clearly define some procedural aspects. The Region – Vice President Mancuso finally remarked – has chosen to adopt an innovative and concrete approach, aware of the operational difficulties that Municipalities often find themselves facing, with the aim of accelerating the implementation of interventions and guaranteeing tangible results in the shortest possible time”.

The initiative was attended by the general director of the Public Works Department, Francesco Tarsia, who illustrated the timing and operational methods of the new agreement, as well as Monica Albano and Alfonso Macrì, representatives of the procedure.
