Moroccan law enforcement officers used tear gas to disperse dozens of migrants on the hills of the coastal town of Fnideq, a couple of kilometers from the Ceuta border.
At the moment – as also reported by the Efe agency – the situation would still be under control and there is no news of injuries but only of some arrests. The images broadcast by the Iberian public broadcaster TVE show several hundred sub-Saharan migrants trying to advance from the heights monitored by dozens of police officers and the Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie, as well as by drones. While, on the Spanish side of the border, military vehicles are deployed.
Thousands of Moroccan agents are involved in the device set up to prevent new mass arrivals in Ceuta, after the appeals spread on social networks in view of August 15th. The missing migrants remained in the area, the sources said. The measures were strengthened after the crisis of 30 and 31 July, when around 80 thousand migrants crossed the border, causing 82 deaths on the Spanish side of the border, according to data released by the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Ceuta, which carried out the autopsies on the bodies. There would be at least 141 victims on both sides of the border, according to estimates by humanitarian organizations, including Caminando Fronteras.
