Fiadel returns to the attack on MessinaSocialCity. This time, trade unionist Clara Crocè’s target is the lack of healthcare personnel. “We ask for a change of pace in the management of MessinaSocialCity. The situation of the nursing staff has reached unsustainable levels of saturation, putting a strain on the maintenance of the services and the dignity of the operators themselves. On paper there are five nurses on staff to deal with a pool of around 1,500 employees and users. The operational reality, however, is very different: with a resource that has been absent for two years pursuant to Law 104, the coverage of the facilities of Casa Serena, Villa Dante, Fratelli Tutti and home services rests entirely on the shoulders of just 4 nurses. A limited staffing staff that must continually be divided between the structures to guarantee emergencies, in the face of the suppression of the home service, although the general management had been informed in writing two weeks ago by the Casa Serena administration about the certainty of unfilled shifts, no adequate planning has been prepared”.

Crocè also underlines that “the insertion of temporary staff – including units from Colle Reale – took place without a single day of support or preventive training, “throwing” the workers into the Messina field without the knowledge tools of the operational context. To confirm the absolute emergency, it was even necessary to resort to the help of a trade unionist who convinced one of his members to return from holidays to avoid the total blockage of services. Added to this organizational conduct is the total inaction on hiring policies: from For about four years no notices or competitions have been announced for permanent hires, the only real incentive to attract qualified professionals. Furthermore, the safety and dignity of the workplace continue to be penalised: the Villa Dante clinic is in completely inappropriate hygienic-structural conditions for a healthcare facility, with buckets and cleaning materials piled up next to the stretcher and the bathrooms”.
