Mayor Franz Caruso, with a specific ordinance, has ordered, with immediate effect, the ban on the use for consumption of the water supplied by the public fountains located in Piazza della Vittoria, Via Mondello, Via Massaua and Via Felice Migliori, following the non-compliances found in the checks carried out and communicated by the Provincial Health Authority – Department of Prevention of Cosenza, UOC Food Hygiene and Nutrition (SIAN). The provision was issued as a precaution and to protect public health, pending the activation of the procedures necessary to restore the quality of the water and the execution of new samplings which will have to ensure that the parameters are within the limits established by current legislation. Until the ordinance is revoked, water may be used exclusively for permitted hygienic purposes and, if boiled, for the further uses indicated in the provision, including food preparation, oral hygiene, washing dishes and kitchen utensils, washing healthcare equipment and objects intended for children.
The ban will remain in force until the elimination or return of the non-compliant parameters within the limits permitted by law and, in any case, until the new sampling results are acquired. The Municipality will continue to monitor the situation in agreement with the Provincial Health Authority and the competent bodies, until the water compliance conditions are completely restored.
