There is frost between the mayor Simona Scarcella and the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria. A chill that emerges from the words of the first citizen herself at the end of the meeting called this morning, after the protests for the failure to activate protection measures.
Scarcella left the Government Palace without hiding his disappointment and spoke openly of “an attitude of great detachment” on the part of the prefect, Clara Vaccaro. It is above all what was said during the discussion that left the mayor dissatisfied. «The prefect – the mayor reported as she left – declared that she has already taken action, even if I don’t see this form of activation, that she is not required to tell me what she will do, what they will do, and therefore if there is a protection I will see it or if I don’t see it it means that it isn’t there».
Scarcella also reiterated that he had expressly requested the activation of protection and that the request be recorded. “No reasons from the prefect,” he added. A reconstruction that now also awaits any clarifications from the Prefecture.
Now, after the confrontation which does not seem to have healed the rift, the mayor is relaunching by calling a press conference scheduled for tomorrow morning at 11 in her office in the Municipality. Scarcella announced that he will illustrate the outcomes and contents of the meeting, the requests made by the administration and the responses received on the topic of safety. «The time has come to speak clearly and without mincing words. Gioia Tauro deserves concrete answers, not silence or postponements”, is the mayor’s message.
