On the day of the funeral in the Cathedral of Carmelo, Rosa, Sara Leone and Santino Magazzù, four of the six victims of the collapse of Pistunina on 30 July, Mayor Basile addressed the victims: “All of Messina learned your names from that afternoon. Since then, months have passed in which the city has hoped. We accompanied Alessandra on this long and painful journey. Weeks of anguish, of questions left suspended. Today the city clings to your families and your loved ones. friends. Today the wounded city greets you and awaits the time of investigation to shed light. Today on the day of silence, prayer and remembrance, your city accompanies you to the place of rest”.
A thought for the victims also from the mayor of Monforte San Giorgio, Antonio Pinizzotto. “The Leone family has always been part of the identity of our community. Carmelo, heir to his father’s entrepreneurial ability, and his family grew up on our streets. Today we remember them and with them also Alessandra and Lahyru”.
Maurilio, Rosa’s son, wanted to remember that July 30th as “the date that changed the life of our family. A pain that finds no meaning or peace and that, looking at that building, becomes stronger, there where we welcomed so many people. To those who knew them I say: let’s remember them for the beauty and for the good they did. We will remember them in every homemade limoncello, in every orchid. They were our lighthouses in the night, which we now painfully love because it brings their light. We had the support of the whole city. In the midst of so much sadness we have seen so much love and for this we thank you.”
