The average saving for Italians with vehicles with a power output of less than 80 kW, who will be affected by the suspension of the car tax that the government is working on for vehicles with a power output of less than 80 kW, could be on average 163.50 euros, i.e. the cost of the average 2026 tax for this category of cars. This is what emerges from the data processed by a joint Facile.it – Online Auto Practices analysis.
The diesel excise duty discount is reduced
On the other hand, the online platform reminds us, the discount on diesel excise duties will decrease, with a negative impact on the pockets of the owners of the over 16.4 million diesel-powered cars still in circulation throughout the country. To estimate the impact of the increase, Facile.it carried out some simulations starting from the current price of diesel in self-service mode, which reached 2.266 euros per liter on 17 September.
How much will a full tank cost?
With this price, a 50-liter tank of diesel costs 113 euros. From 18 to 25 September the discount on excise duties will be reduced to 12.2 cents and this, net of further increases, would bring the price at the pump to 2.315 euros and the cost of a full tank to 116 euros; from 26 September to 5 October, with the further reduction of the discount, the full tank will rise to 119 euros. From 6 October onwards, in the absence of further interventions, the cost of a full tank of diesel could exceed 122 euros.
Spending on an annual basis
Considering these rates, spending on an annual basis with an average mileage of 10,000 km would go from 1,246 euros on 17 September to over 1,340 euros in the absence of discounts on excise duties. The surcharge would therefore be equal to 94 euros, net of further increases in the price of diesel. Twelve months ago, when the price of diesel was 1.64 euros per litre, the annual refueling expense for 10,000 km stopped at 903 euros.
