The municipal administration of San Ferdinando is also proceeding rapidly towards the imminent launch of the first “Council of Girls and Boys”, which will be elected on November 20th and will take office on December 15th. Thus another of the absolutely extraordinary social effects takes shape, promoted by the inclusion of the small center of the Gioia Tauro plain – together with nearby Rosarno – among the Italian municipalities benefiting from the funds allocated by the Meloni government with the so-called Caivano bis decree.
Times, methods and objectives of the new organization for the direct participation of children in the civic context in which they live were at the center of the meeting that Mayor Gianluca Gaetano had, in the San Ferdinando municipality, with a delegation from the Department of Public Function relating to the presidency of the Council of Ministers. The officials of the ministry led by Paolo Zangrillo illustrated the state of the process and preparations for the organisation, on 15 December, of the ceremony which will lead to the installation of the very special Assembly made up of 24 girls and boys attending the Marvasi-Vizzone and Scopelliti-Green comprehensive schools.
The new Council, which in compliance with the UN Convention on the Rights of Children and Adolescents represents an even more inclusive and specialized formula than those already widespread in local authority regulations, will make more evident the impact of the intervention for the prevention of “social marginalization” and for the “redevelopment of the suburbs” conducted from 2024 by the control room led by Commissioner Fabio Ciciliano, which for San Ferdinando has already led to the closure and demolition of the tent city of migrants, as part of a plan that involves spending over 10,000,000 euros on construction sites to be opened throughout the municipal territory.
