Today Messina greets a figure of reference for local institutions and local security: Umberto Famà died at the age of 81. Born in the city of the Strait on 14 September 1945, Famà has embodied the values of duty, discipline and the spirit of service for decades. His training has its roots in the prestigious Military Academy of Modenaan experience that marked the beginning of a brilliant career that saw him hold numerous and delicate positions within the Ministry of Defense.
In the 2000s, his strong management expertise and his firm but balanced leadership led him to a new and prestigious commitment to serving local communities. Umberto Famà was in fact the authoritative one commander of the municipal police of some of the most important and complex squares in the province: Messina, Milazzo, Taormina and Villafranca. In each of these realities, Commander Famà left his mark, distinguishing himself for his ability to innovate the organization of local police forces, tackling with decisiveness the challenges of traffic, urban safety and administrative management in contexts of high tourist and metropolitan complexity. The news of his passing aroused deep condolences among his colleagues, the municipal administrations with which he collaborated and those who appreciated his moral integrity, professionalism and absolute dedication to his work. With him goes a piece of history of public safety and local administration in Messina.
