“Respect today, for a more humane tomorrow”: this is the educational message that accompanied the two days promoted by the “Giacomo Leopardi” comprehensive institute to celebrate International Animal Day. A chain of solidarity and awareness on the needs and well-being of the animal world involved the entire school community, with the participation of students from the four schools Ferraù, Rodari, Don Orione and Leopardi where solidarity banquets were set up to collect gifts for the four-legged friends assisted by the Millemusi shelter in Portella Castanea.

The event was organized in collaboration with the National League for the Defense of Dogs section of Messina, represented by the president Aldo Albrandi and some volunteers, and with the coordination of the teacher Cinzia Ignoto, contact person for the legality of the school and responsible for the Don Orione complex. Through a small gesture of generosity, the students understood that respect can also be expressed by helping those who need it most, because the well-being of animals makes us feel good too. An in-depth topic with pupils in the fifth grades of primary school and the first classes of secondary school. The presence of two special guests, a puppy dog and a puppy cat looking for adoption, thrilled the school groups by representing an opportunity to concretely reflect on the value of conscious and responsible adoptions.

The vice-principal Nicoletta Vitrano spoke in the final meeting, at the Leopardi central plexus, bringing greetings from the school director Ersilia Caputo. The initiative was shared by the Second District represented by councilor Giovanni Danzi. A special donation was supported by the teachers to help the animals that were guests of the Margherita shelter, which was definitively closed on September 30th, for which it has not yet been possible to find an adoption.
