In recent days, the Court of Catanzaro ordered the application of the prevention measure of special public security surveillance with an obligation to stay for a period of three years against a thirty-three-year-old Italian resident in Catanzaro and burdened by numerous criminal records.
The provision was issued following the acceptance of the joint proposal formulated by the Public Prosecutor and the Catanzaro Police Commissioner.
The adoption of the measure arises from the investigative activity conducted by the Prevention Measures Section of the Anti-Crime Police Division of the Police Headquarters, which outlined the current social dangerousness of the proposed person, suspected of the crime of mafia-type association (art. 416-bis of the criminal code) and falling within the cases referred to in the art. 4, paragraph 1, letter. a) and c), of Legislative Decree 159/201.
From the findings analyzed by the Judicial Authority, the man’s alleged belonging to the Gaglianesi gang emerges, a branch of organized crime operating in the Calabrian capital.
In the context of this alleged contiguity, the subject would have made use of methods of intimidation attributable to the mafia method, making himself responsible for particularly serious conduct regarding the illegal possession of common firearms; possession for the purpose of dealing drugs, aggravated injuries and aggravated private violence, kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
The proposed criminal profile records two final convictions: in December 2013, a final sentence of 3 years and 4 months in prison for crimes involving weapons and drugs; in 2021 a final sentence of 1 year and 4 months of imprisonment for possession for the purpose of dealing marijuana in competition with 23 other people, as part of a supply and dealing network active in the regional territory.
These elements confirm, according to the reconstruction of the investigative bodies, a constant proximity to the main local criminal contexts.
The special surveillance measure involves subjecting the recipient to a regime of strict supervision by the State Police for a period of three years.
Among the prescriptions and prohibitions ordered by the Court include the obligation to stay in the municipality of residence, the obligation to report three times a week to the public security authority, the prohibition on habitually associating with people convicted or subjected to prevention or security measures, the absolute prohibition on keeping or carrying weapons, the obligation to stay at home during the prescribed evening and night hours.
