The Archaeological Parks of Crotone and Sibari renew their participation in the Mediterranean Archaeological Tourism Exchange (BMTA) of Paestum, scheduled from 29 October to 1 November 2026 in the spaces of Next – former Tabacchificio. The state institute belonging to the Ministry of Culture presents itself at the Salerno event with a presence structured on two levels: on the one hand a dedicated exhibition stand, animated by the Parks staff and set up with information materials, promotional video productions and thematic gadgets to illustrate to visitors the cultural offer of the relevant places of culture – including museums and archaeological areas – and tell the profound connection between archaeology, community and territory; on the other, a structured calendar of technical, scientific and institutional interventions conducted by Director Filippo Demma in the main working groups of the event.
The four-day program will see the Calabrian Institute at the center of the sessions promoted by the MiC Departments, regional bodies and the academic and scientific world. We start tomorrow, Thursday 29 October, in the MIC Room with a double appointment: at 10.30 am participation in the conference on the “Fundraising Project of the Ministry of Culture”, a pilot initiative of national importance coordinated by the Department for the valorisation of cultural heritage (DiVa), by the Central Institute for the economic valorisation and promotion of cultural heritage (IC-VEPP) and by ALES SpA, which will see interventions by ministerial leaders including Alfonsina Russo, Fabio Tagliaferri, Alessio De Cristofaro and Carolina Botti; followed, from 11.30 to 12, by the technical presentation entirely curated by the Parks and dedicated to the Le Castella Fortress on Isola Capo Rizzuto, focused on the complex restoration and refunctionalization interventions of the monument, in which Director Demma will dialogue with the architect and designer Antonio Abbruzzese.
On Friday 30 October the works will move to the Sala Velia. At 4.30 pm Director Demma will speak at the conference promoted by the Tourism Department of the Calabria Region entitled “Archaeological tourism and new consciences: the future of research, the research of the future”, focused on the excavation sites of young researchers from the University of Bologna in Locri, together with the Director of the Locri Park Elena Trunfio. Immediately afterwards, from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, he will take part in the round table organized by the European University Center for Cultural Heritage of Ravello on the theme “Archeology and Territory: Valorization of Attractors and Local Development”, opened by President Alfonso Andria and coordinated by Professor Fabio Pollice, who will compare the Parks of Crotone and Sibari with the directors of the main autonomous sites of the Center-South such as Paestum and Velia, Cerveteri and Tarquinia, Herakleia and Sepino.
To crown the presence of the Institute, on Saturday 31 October (Sala Velia, 12-2.30 pm) Director Demma will take part in the prestigious meeting on “Governance models: comparison of archaeological foundations and autonomous parks/museums”, coordinated by Stefano Monti (ArcheoItaliae). A high-profile management debate which will see the heads of the Foundations in dialogue with the Directors of the large national Autonomous Museum Institutes (including the Colosseum, Pompeii, MANN, Reggio Calabria, Ercolano, Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este) and the top representatives of the Ministry of Culture, including the Deputy Chief of Staff Valerio Sarcone and the Department Heads Luigi La Rocca and Alfonsina Russo, with the expected conclusion of the Minister of Culture Alessandro Giuli.
“Participation in the BMTA of Paestum is a fundamental opportunity for technical and management comparison, where we bring the strength of concrete results already returned to the community – declares the Director of the Archaeological Parks of Crotone and Sibari, Filippo Demma -. From the reopening in March of the Archaeological Museum of Capo Colonna, completely renovated in the exhibition itinerary and at the forefront in terms of accessibility and new technologies, until the return to use of the Fortress of Le Castella in June, restored and made accessible on a cognitive and sensorial level thanks to PNRR funds, up to the modernization work underway at the Sibaritide Museum, we demonstrate how public resources are being translated into tangible works. From the new frontiers of public-private fundraising to the debate on governance models promoted by the Ministry of Culture led by Minister Alessandro Giuli, our objective remains clear: to demonstrate how rigorous protection and the ability to generate development and pride for the territories must and can go hand in hand”.
The participation of the Archaeological Parks of Crotone and Sibari in the BMTA 2026 reaffirms the centrality of the Institute in the panorama of national cultural policies, consolidating a model capable of combining conservation, scientific research, management transparency and integrated promotion of Magna Graecia.
