Tamayo Perry, a well-known face both as an actor and a surfer, has died after being attacked by a shark yesterday. After a stint in the cast of “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”, the 2011 film from the Disney saga, Perry returned to being a lifeguard and surfing.

Just as he was riding the waves on Goat Island, Hawaii, he fell victim to a shark. The news, reports the BBC, was confirmed by the Honolulu emergency services in a press conference.

Ocean Safety Authority acting chief Kurt Lager said Perry was “a lifeguard loved by everyone,” noting his outgoing personality, “as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.” Mayor Rick Blangiardi echoed Lager’s sentiments, calling Perry’s death “a tragic loss.”
