Federalberghi Aeolian islands learns with considerable disappointment of the confirmation of theIncrease in Tari 2025 39.74%to which is added a further Increase in water rates equal to 17.7%.
A very hard blow for the archipelago tourist-sensitive sector, already put to the test by growing operating costs and an uncertain economic context.
The association had repeatedly expressed without obtaining any feedback, with formal communications sent via PEC, its strong concern. In particular on April 14, 2025, with reference to the determination with which the assignment was entrusted for the preparation of the TARI rates, we requested a copy of the documentation and to be listened to, highlighting the already heavy charges supported by the accommodation facilities. On May 10, in the absence of any feedback, we reiterated our requests, denouncing the risk – confirmed by several newspapers – of an increase of up to 40%. Risk that, unfortunately, has materialized.
The increases fall disproportionately and unfairly on tourism, the driving force of the local economy. Here are some emblematic data: the increase For domestic users passes from € 1.93 to € 2.70 per square meters (+€ 0.77) while for the accommodation facilities from € 4.72 to € 6.60 per square meter (+€ 1.88).
A very heavy aggravation for many structures, in particular those with extensive surfaces – not proportional to the actual production of waste – which have to face an unsustainable tax burden, ree of having intended to reward its guests with larger spaces to better enjoy your stay.
Also on the water service front, the increases exceed 17% compared to the first 11 months of 2024. Tourist and commercial users (hotel, bathing, deportments, construction) are among the most penalized, with substantial increases. The fixed fee goes from € 68.48 to € 80.40 (+17.41%) and the cubic meter amount from € 2.13 to Mk for € 2.50 per MC (+17.37%).
During the meeting he urgently convened for yesterday in Federalberghi Aeolian Islands, a unanimous disappointment emerged. Several critical nodes emerged, first of all, there is the absence of extraordinary funds – also at regional or national level – that could contribute to mitigating the impact of such consistent increases. Equally worrying is the total lack of systems that reward virtuous behavior: the structures that commit themselves to the reduction of waste or in the separate collection do not receive any recognition, and the rates continue regardless of any criterion of environmental sustainability or management responsibility. Added to this is the anachronistic use of the surface as the only parameter for the calculation of the TARI, completely ignoring the real quantity and type of waste produced. This approach penalizes above all the wider structures, often designed to offer greater comfort to guests, but not for this responsible for a greater production of waste.
Finally, the reduction provided for seasonal structures also appears completely inadequate: the 25% relief does not take into account the fact that many of these activities operate for a few months a year, and would therefore be revised with greater consistency than their real operation.
Federalberghi Eolie Islands strongly renews the request for a serious and constructive confrontation with the administration, based on equity and common sense, abandoning bureaucratic approaches and preconceptions.
In the meantime, the Association has started in -depth checks on the legitimacy and adequacy of these increases.
The tourist-sensitive sector represents one of the main load-bearing columns of the Aeolian economy: treating it as a simple “ATM” means compromising the hold of the entire system.
For years we have been denouncing the growing unsustainability of the local tourist system. Yet – despite an approved tourism development plan that should have traced a new route – no strategic measure has been really implemented. A change of pace and a real sharing of development objectives is urged.
