Calabria is the first Region in Italy in spending European funds in the agricultural sector. The goal, sanctioned by the achievement of the N+3 target and spending percentages of 100%, has now also been sealed by official statistics.

This was announced by the regional councilor for Agriculture, Gianluca Gallo, underlining how the Calabria Region has successfully completed the expenditure of community resources as part of the closure of the 2014-2022 rural development programme, avoiding any risk of automatic disengagement.

The result is fully confirmed, in particular, in the official Agea data, updated to 21 December 2025, which attest to how Calabria is the most virtuous region in Italy for the advancement of EAFRD spending. Against a public financial allocation of 1,386,390,608 euros, the expenditure incurred amounts to 1,389,107,067 euros, with a progress level of 100.26%, the highest at national level. A similar record is recorded for the EAFRD quota, with 903,253,687 euros of funding and over 905 million euros already spent.

“The achievement of this objective – declares Councilor Gallo – testifies to the serious and punctual work carried out by the Agriculture Department, together with Arcea, to guarantee a timely and effective use of European funds, avoiding the risk of revocation of resources by the European Commission. It is a result that rewards Calabria and which certifies finally efficient management of agricultural policies”.

The Councilor also highlights that the achievement was possible thanks to a coordinated administrative action, developed on the basis of the directives established in the Council by President Roberto Occhiuto, which made it possible to avoid the automatic disengagement of EAFRD resources, a phenomenon which involves the return of the funds to Brussels and a serious loss of opportunities for the agricultural sector and rural development.
