Agrigento Capital of Culture pays homage to Camilleri

Andrea Camilleri, his life and language created in many novels, will be dedicated to the events that the Associazione Strada degli writers will create for Agrigento Capital of Culture 2025. Initiatives to be held during the summer in agreement with the Andrea Camilleri Fund and with the National Committee for the Centenary established by the Ministry of Culture. The appointments, included in the project of the “squares of the capital” wanted by the association founded by Felice Cavallaro, will objective the enhancement of the figure of Camilleri and the promotion of his work among tourists arriving in the city of Temples also to discover in Racalmuto, Porto Empedocle, Favara, Palma di Montechiaro, Santa Margherita Belìce, Sambuca di Sicilia, Caltanissetta and in many other centers to which the great writers of the twentieth century operated, from Pirandello to Sciascia, Russello, Tomasi di Lampedusa, Navarro della Miraglia, Rosso di San Secondo and so on. The central moment of events, a two -day to be held on 17 and 18 July in the Valley of the Temples with the participation of writers, actors, artists and family members of Camilleri. Among others also Roberto Andò, the director who linked his name to the last touching interpretation of Camilleri in the role of Tiresia at the Greek theater in Syracuse and many successful films, including the recent “The Blinds” and “The strangeness”. He will be awarded the first edition of the “Camilleri Prize” established on the Centenary by the Institute of History of the Sicilian Entertainment. A concert is planned, a conference on the “Language of Vigata” and an evening show entitled “The true vigate”. During the summer, the association will also take care of the installation of multimedia corners in some of the municipalities of the writers’ road with continuous information for travelers also through the words of Camilleri, the result of an interview granted by the author of Commissioner Montalbano speaking of Vigata and surroundings.
