“The situation of non-medical healthcare managers, including biologists, chemists, pharmacists, psychologists and veterinarians, is simply absurd. These professionals, who contribute to the care and well-being of our community on a daily basis, do not benefit from any allowance during the specialization period, despite actively serving, providing health and social-healthcare services. Furthermore, they find themselves having to bear considerable economic costs for university fees and logistical expenses.” This is what the regional councilor of the Democratic Party states, Amalia Bruni.
“For this reason, I considered it a duty to bring the issue to the attention of the president of the regional council through a specific question – underlines Bruni -. In recent days I received a formal response from the Councilor for Work and Higher Education which, unfortunately, I consider absolutely unsatisfactory. The answer can be summarized as “there is no national regulatory framework of reference and, therefore, we cannot do anything”. This is a point that I had already highlighted in the question.”
“It is true that there is no clear national regulatory framework, but it is not acceptable to stand still waiting for a central solution, when several Italian regions, including Emilia Romagna, Lombardy, Liguria, Campania, Sardinia and now also Sicily, have already taken autonomous initiatives to guarantee trainee healthcare managers in non-medical areas an allowance. If they can do it, we can do it too”, exclaims the Democratic regional councilor.
“There are in fact resources that could be used, such as those deriving from the 2021/2027 Regional Program or any residues of other measures. We cannot allow such an unjust disparity in treatment between young professionals who belong to the higher education of our National Health Service to continue – concludes councilor Bruni -. The national budget session is underway these days, and the regional one will also open soon. I believe it is possible to answer a question of justice that can no longer be ignored. The trainees have the right to our support, and the Calabria Region has the duty to do its part, even while waiting for national legislative intervention”.
