«The news that Amazon abandoned the investment project in Gioia Tauro due to pressure from the ‘Ndrangheta raises strong institutional alarm». This was stated by regional councilor Elisa Scutellà, group leader of the M5S, who intervened asking for immediate clarity. «If it were confirmed – he explains – that an international giant has given up investing in Calabria for fear of criminal influence, we would be faced with an event of unprecedented gravity. The ‘Ndrangheta continues to slow down the development, work and future of our territories, and this is no longer tolerable.”

The councilor underlines that «we cannot remain spectators in the face of an episode that risks compromising the image and economic attractiveness of Calabria. We demand – he states – that clarity is immediately drawn on what happened and that all actions are implemented to ensure that every investment can be carried out in safety and transparency”.

«Calabria cannot be held hostage by crime»

According to Scutellà, the affair requires a strong and coordinated institutional reaction: «Calabria – he claims – cannot be held hostage by organized crime. We need more stringent controls, a credible institutional network and a concrete commitment to free the economy from any form of mafia conditioning. We cannot allow – he concludes – a development opportunity to be canceled in general silence”.
