The foil player Arianna Errigo and the high jumper Gianmarco Tamberi they will be the flag bearers of the Italia Team at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games: this was announced by the president of CONI, Giovanni Malagò, during the National Council. With Errigo and Tamberi it is the second time in the history of the Summer Olympics that Italy has opted for two standard-bearers of different sexes, thus implementing the indications of the International Olympic Committee promoting gender equality among athletes. The previous one dates back to 2021 on the occasion of Tokyo 2020 with Jessica Rossi (skeetshooting) and Elia Viviani (cycling).
Arianna Errigo, 35 years old from Monza with Calabrian origins, carabiniere, multiple fencing champion, gold in team foil and individual silver in London 2012, team bronze in Tokyo 2020 and mother of twins Mirea and Stefano, succeeds Valentina Vezzali in her discipline, blue standard bearer in the London edition. Tamberi, 31 years old, from the Marche region, policeman, Olympic champion in Tokyo 2020 and reigning world and European champion in the high jump, he succeeds in athletics the legend Pietro Mennea who paraded in Seoul 1988.
