On the occasion of the anniversary of November 4th, National Unity Day and Armed Forces Day, a solemn ceremony was held at the War Memorial in Piazza Matteotti in Catanzaro, starting at 11.30 am.
The local civil, religious and military authorities intervened in the presence of the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior Hon. Wanda Ferro.
The program of the day includes the raising of the flag and the laying of a laurel wreath at the War Memorial by the Undersecretary of State accompanied by the Prefect of Catanzaro Castrese De Rosa and the Commander of the Calabria Carabinieri Legion Riccardo Sciuto. This was followed by the presentation of the tricolor to the Istituto Comprensivo Casalinuovo-Catanzaro Sud, selected on the occasion by the provincial school office.
The event continued with the awarding of fourteen Awards of Merit of the Italian Republic to citizens of the province of Catanzaro, who distinguished themselves “for long and notable services in civil and military careers and in the third sector for initiatives benefiting the community”. The celebration of November 4th represents an important moment of reflection and memory, aimed at remembering the value, commitment and professionalism that the women and men of the Armed Forces dedicate daily, with responsibility and spirit of service, to the defense of democratic institutions, to the protection of the community, in the delicate tasks of Civil Protection and Defense and to the firm maintenance and sharing of a feeling of “National Unity”.
For the occasion, some shop windows in “Corso Mazzini” were set up with display material from the Armed Forces and the Armed and non-Armed Corps of the State, both military and civilian, including those of historical value, thus offering citizens an opportunity to get to know and get closer to the world of Defense and public service.
