After more than 24 hours, the regional deputies of Controcorrente interrupt the occupation, but announce that they will not allow the Ars Budget commission to meet until the group leader is convened and one parliamentarian from the group and one from the League are represented. The decision comes after a note from President Galvagno who, the deputies report, indicates that the only remedy is to bring the issue to the group leaders. “However, the occupation has led to an initial result”, say the exponents of Controcorrente, explaining that they stopped the protest after this reassurance.
«Redetermining the commissions would open up a government crisis»
The group links the failure to open the Budget Commission to the balance in the majority. «If Galvagno opens this shirt, all the commissions and related presidencies will have to be redetermined. A possible opening would lead to a government crisis”, say the deputies. “They can’t agree on an amendment, let alone if they manage to divide the presidencies again, with the League in the background which clearly also wants to be represented in the commission, effectively confirming our position”, they add. According to Controcorrente, the crisis would have caused the budget change to be postponed by at least two weeks. «Translated: they are slaughtering each other», is the thrust of the group.
The reference to the regulation and the conditions to stop the protest
The deputies remain convinced that the responsibility for reshaping the commissions lies with the president of the ARS and recall article 62-ter of the regulation, which, according to what they claim, obliges the president to intervene after two years of legislature. The end of the occupation therefore does not close the dispute: “We reiterate that until the group leader is there and until one of our parliamentarians and one from the League are represented, we will not allow the Budget Commission to meet.”
