Matteo Arnaldi and Jannik Sinner reach the quarter-finals of the ‘National Bank Open’, sixth ATP Masters 1000 of the season (with a total prize pool of $6,795,555), which is played on the hard courts of the Iga Stadium in Montreal, Canada.
The 23-year-old Ligurian, number 46 in the ATP ranking, overcame the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the round of 16forced to retire in the third set. At the time of the stoppage the Italian was leading 4-6 7-6 m(5) 3-0.
On the other hand, everything was easy for Jannik Sinner who beat the Chilean Alejando Tabilo in two sets, with a score of 6-4 6-3. In the quarterfinals Arnaldi will challenge the “revived” Kei Nishikori. The Japanese today defeated the Portuguese Nuno Borges 6-3 6-4. The world number 1, instead, will face the Russian Andrey Rublev who beat the American Brandon Nakashima with a double 6-2.
