The national anti -terrorism prosecutor (Pnat) has taken over control of the investigations on the attack that took place today in an APT supermarket, near Avignon. A 32 -year -old man of French nationality, armed with a knife and shouting “Allah Akbar”, attacked a customer at the cashier and a security guard. The customer was hit in the face and punched, while the guard was injured during the scuffle to submit the assaulting. Both victims are not in danger of life, according to what reported by the PNAT.

The attacker, with criminal records for violence, a criminal association and manufacture of explosives, was scheduled in Fichier des Signaments pour la prévention de la radicalisation à caractère terrorist (FSPRT). He was taken in custody by the police. The PNAT has opened an investigation for “attempted murder in relation to a terrorist company” and “terrorist criminal association aimed at the commission of crimes against people”.

The investigations were entrusted to the sub-intervention anti-terrorism (SDAT), the zonal direction of the National Police of the South-East and the General Directorate of Internal Security.

At the opening ceremony of the judicial court of Paris, Tuesday, the anti -terrorism prosecutor Olivier Christen He highlighted how the absence of deaths from terrorist attacks in France in 2024 does not mean a risk reduction. Last year nine attacks were foiled, and in 2024 the PNAT opened 85 preliminary investigations, of which 66 only concern jihadism, marking a 70% increase compared to 2023.
