Arson cannot be ruled out for the fire that before dawn yesterday – it was just after 4.30 when the fire broke out – consumed an Opel Grandland in via Papa Giovanni Paolo II. The car, parked along the road, is owned by a commercial entrepreneur. In a few minutes the fire completely engulfed the vehicle, leaving behind a devastated and unusable carcass. The intervention of the firefighters of the Castrovillari detachment contained the damage. The firefighters worked hard to put out the flames and make the area safe, as it is a crowded road, managing to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other vehicles or homes in the vicinity.
The carabinieri of the Cassano all’Ionio Company also intervened on site, under the orders of Captain Chiara Baione. The military has started investigations to reconstruct the dynamics and above all to identify the origin of the fire. Investigators are evaluating every possible scenario and, at the state of the investigations, the arson lead appears to be the most clear-cut one. But yet another fire involving a vehicle belonging to an entrepreneur inevitably puts the spotlight back on safety in Sibaritide. A territory that, in recent months, has experienced a sequence of episodes that fuel anxiety and questions.
