The clearing operations of the Scordovillo slum have resumed. The bulldozers are in fact back in action in the largest slum in the South, to remove the debris from the shacks that have already been knocked down. In fact, the work carried out by the Government, Region and Municipality continues unabated to eliminate a shame that has lasted over 40 years.
The first 200 people have already been taken away from the Roma camp, families who now live in dignified homes, thanks also to the work carried out, with many difficulties, by Aterp Calabria, led by Commissioner Grazia Maria Carmela Iannini. In fact, it was not easy to find homes for all the Roma families, and to this was added the obstructionism of the mayors of the Lametino hinterland who do not want Roma families in their municipalities.
The work, however, proceeds and as the families leave the camp, the shacks are demolished.
And it is precisely among the bulldozers and the rubble that a story with a happy ending arrived, which restored profound humanity to a complex day: personnel of the State Police of the Public Security Commissariat of Lamezia Terme, directed by the deputy commissioner Concetta Gangemi, working side by side with the soldiers of the Carabinieri, whose Group is led by Lieutenant Colonel Carmine Giabiola, made an unexpected discovery. Hidden among the debris and in a clear situation of danger, there were three puppies together with their mother, left isolated in the chaos of the demolitions.
