Australian Open, Maestrelli fairy tale: beats Atmane and will face Djokovic in the second round

Francesco Maestrelli, number 141 ATP, flies to the second round of the Australian Open 2026. The Tuscan, making his debut in the main draw of a Slam, prevailed in the fifth set over the Frenchman Terence Atmane (n.64 ATP), with the score of 6-4 3-6 6-7(4) 6-1 6-1, at the end of a match that lasted 3 hours and 28 minutes. After the victories in the qualifiers against Giustino, Seyboth Wild and Lajovic, Maestrelli also achieved success in a main draw, the first in his career in a Major. The blue awaits the multiple champion Novak Djokovic in the second round who eliminated the Spaniard Martinez in the first round.

Bellucci eliminated by Ruud

Mattia Bellucci’s path to the Australian Open ends in the first round. The blue n.76 ATP was defeated in three sets by the Norwegian Casper Ruud (n.13), with a score of 6-1, 6-2, 6-4, in an hour and 42 minutes of play. Ruud will face Spaniard Jaume Munar in the second round.
