Jannik Sinner continues his journey at the Australian Open without hesitation. The world number 2 beat Australian James Duckworth with a score of 6-1 6-4 6-2 in one hour and 49 minutes of play, qualifying for the third round of the first Slam of the season.

Match controlled from start to finish

A solid and continuous performance from the Italian, who based the match on an effective serve and deep returns, taking away rhythm and certainties from his opponent. Sinner managed the key moments of the match with clarity, always maintaining control of the exchange and reducing errors to a minimum.

At the end of the match, the South Tyrolean underlined the difficulty of every match in a tournament like this: “Every match is very difficult, I’m happy to be in the third round. I responded well and served in the right way, I’m happy with my performance”. Words of esteem also for Duckworth, scarred by numerous surgeries in the past: “I’m happy to see him back here at a high level and I wish him the best for the season.”

Condition and look at the next round

Sinner then took stock of his physical and mental condition: “I feel really good. Based on how the match goes we also decide on the work in the gym. I’m happy with the preparation I’ve done, both my body and my mind are very well and there’s no better way to start the season in a special tournament like this”.

In the third round the Italian will face the American Eliot Spizzirri, number 85 in the ATP ranking, for the first time. “He is very aggressive and serves very well. I saw his match today, I have never faced him and I don’t know him very well yet”, explained Sinner, already looking forward to the next match.
