Calabrian mayors still divided on differentiated autonomy. The picture that emerged during the assembly of the Anci of Lorica was confirmed yesterday in Lamezia Terme during the meeting of the Regional Council of the same organization that brings together the mayors. The decision to establish a consultative and study commission on the application of the law on Autonomy was passed unanimously by those present, but in the absence of the mayors of the five provincial capitals.
The decision taken by the various Fiorita, Falcomatà, Caruso, Voce and Romeo (all from the centre-left area) represents yet another confirmation of the ongoing political conflict on the effects of the reform and which also affects the ambitions and future projects of the individual protagonists. It is a game that also closely concerns the Forza Italia governor Roberto Occhiuto, who for weeks has been caught between the duty to defend the interests of the Calabrians and the need to avoid blatant ruptures with Rome and avert important political repercussions.
In any case, in the broad j’accuse formulated by the mayors of the big cities towards the president of the Anci Rosaria Succurro there is also that of an “excessive flattening” on the Regional Council and on the national government with a center-right drive. “It is evident – attack the standard-bearers of the center-left – that Succurro has no intention of asking for a referendum to repeal the Calderoli law. President Succurro’s proposal to establish an observatory on differentiated autonomy is practically a photocopy of Forza Italia’s proposal. An elegant way of not taking a position and still allowing the implementation of the reform. Never in its history had the Calabrian ANCI bowed so much to regional and national power”.
