Schools closed in 15 Ionian municipalities on Tuesday 22 October. The mayors decided this by signing the ordinances after the publication of the warning for the meteorological-hydrogeological and hydraulic risk by the regional civil protection. From 4pm to midnight yesterday the alert rose to orange with a pre-alarm operational phase, while from midnight and throughout the day today a yellow alert was declared with a caution phase, a level which usually does not lead the Municipalities to order the closure of the schools. Lessons have been suspended in Sant’Alessio Siculo, Santa Teresa di Riva, Savoca, Limina, Antillo, Furci Siculo, Roccalumera, Nizza di Sicilia, Pagliara, Mandanici, Alì Terme, Alì, Fiumedinisi, Itala and Scaletta Zanclea.
The mayors preferred, as a precaution, to avoid travel in the areas affected by today’s severe bad weather, awaiting a timely reconnaissance of the state of the roads and school buildings.
