The regional Civil Protection Department has been working continuously since the beginning of the serious climatic events that affected a large part of Calabria over the weekend, in close coordination with all the institutions, the Fire Brigade and voluntary associations, to intervene on the emergencies and act on the recovery of normal conditions”.

This is what the general manager of the Calabria Civil Protection Department states in a note, Domenico Costarella.

“The exceptional meteorological events which particularly affected the Lamezzo area – continues Costarella – saw the Civil Protection System fully operational in supporting mayors and assisting the population.

They have been toIn fact, voluntary organizations equipped with hydrogeological modules were activated and intervened under the coordination of the Fire Brigade, particularly in the city of Lamezia Terme and its industrial area, where some evacuations were also carried out. Thanks to the support of the regional reclamation consortium and Calabria Verde, interventions were carried out with heavy vehicles to facilitate the flow of water.

In the Municipality of St. Peter’s in Maida the Civil Protection, with its own resources and those of Calabria Verde, worked to restore traffic and carried out some evacuations as a precaution, also operating with hydrogeological modules.

Again due to the intense rainfall of the last few hours, support activities in the management and overcoming of the emergency were provided by the Department and some voluntary associations to the Municipality of Montebello Jonico, and of a technical nature to the Municipality of Bovalino.

As early as today’s morning, technicians from the Regional Department went to the most affected areas for one first assessment of the damage, also for the purposes of preparing the request for recognition of the state of emergency.
