Having completed the patrolling of the ridge using drones and the subsequent direct inspection by the rock climbers on the wall, Anas has started the first urgent safety measures on the SS 18 “Tirrena Inferiore”, in the stretch between km 499,500 and km 517,000, in the Bagnara Calabra area, affected in recent days by rockfall phenomena following the wave of adverse alluvial weather caused by Cyclone Harry.

In fact, now that the weather warning conditions which until now had limited operations on site have temporarily subsided, the rock climbers are currently in action, specialized workers lowered along the ridge using technical safety ropes and engaged in the operations of scaling the unstable blocks to mitigate the residual risk of falling rocks from the rocky slopes affected by the collapse.

If weather conditions permit, rock blasting activities will also continue on next Saturday and Sunday, without interruptions. These preliminary activities, which are essential for the safety of the ridge, will be followed in the next few weeks by tackling interventions to consolidate the slopes and subsequently by the installation of the rockfall barriers which will allow the subsequent reopening of the SS 18 to transit, in the first phase possibly with alternating one-way traffic, for a gradual safe restoration of road traffic.
