The mayor is certain of it: “If the rankings on the quality of life finally take into account what has been done in the last five years, Messina will be able to move up many positions.” Read the ranking of “Italia Oggi” and see the city (in truth, the report is done on a provincial scale) struggling in the relegation zone, by virtue of parameters and indicators which, as often happens, they lend themselves to discussions and different interpretations, according to Basile, do not respond to the reality of the facts.
That “reality of facts” which yesterday, in Turin, during the annual assembly of the Anci (the national association of Italian municipalities), the mayor of Messina presented in summary, referring above all to the issues of waste, energy and separate waste collection.
Federico Basile spoke, together with the mayors of Treviso, Arezzo and Viterboin the second “panel” of the day, on the theme “Let’s light up the future”. «On waste – he began – the city of Messina, in the last five years, has completely changed its approach: it has, in fact, reached an important milestone with 59.8 percent of separate waste collection, which for the South is an extraordinary result. To continue on this path, however, we need technological investments. Policy, in this context, should address the issue of creating proximity plants to reduce the movement of materials. This year we have reduced the Tari by 30 percent and this certainly encourages citizens to collaborate in our growth path, but we need technological interventions to support this trend”.
Commenting on the participation in the 41st Anci Assembly (which elected its new president, the mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi), Basile added: «For the third consecutive year I had the opportunity to proudly talk about our administrative experience. I talked about the “Messina model”, our strategies for waste management and disposal, between innovation and sustainability.
