The Port Authority of Vibo Valentia has issued the new bathing order for the 2025 seasonapplicable along the entire coastal part of competence, which extends from the municipality of Amantea to that of Nicotera. The provision was born from the need to update the procedures consolidated over the years, integrating the operational experience with the increasingly stringent national regulatory framework in terms of safety, environmental protection and use of the territory.

The new ordinance, which can be consulted in full on the Coast Guard portal and through QR Code, transpires the recent ministerial indications that uniform the duration of the seaside season at national level, setting it between the third Saturday of May and the third Sunday of September, with the possibility for local authorities to anticipate or postpone the opening of a week.

During this period, each bathing establishment must guarantee the rescue service every day from 08:00 to 20:00, according to the methods defined by the ordinance.

New flags to report the state of the sea
One of the main innovations introduced concerns the adaptation of signs on rescue workstations to European standards. The new state flags will be:

Green flag (to replace the previous white): active assistance and favorable conditions;

Yellow flag: active assistance but potentially risky weather-marine conditions;

Red flag: not recommended or dangerous bathing, regardless of the presence of active service.

The ordinance also invites the coastal municipalities to adopt uniform signs based on the model of the European Perla project and on the ISO 20712 symbolism, already used in many seaside resorts in Europe. The goal is to guarantee greater comprehensibility and safety, especially for foreign swimmers and occasional tourists.

Finally, the Coast Guard of Vibo Valentia recalls that, in the event of an emergency at sea, the blue number 1530 is active 24 hours, both by a landline and mobile phone, in addition to the single European number for emergencies 112.

The invitation addressed to all users of the sea is that of the utmost prudence and respect for the rules. “The real prevention – reads the note – starts from responsible and aware behavior, at sea and on the beach”.
