“I will spend every last drop of blood for my city.” This was stated by Mimmo Battaglia, acting mayor, who is confident that he will also be the center-left candidate for mayor in the elections on May 24th. These are complex days for Battaglia, suspended halfway between his duties as mayor and an electoral campaign that is now being felt in the city. The center-left primaries will be held on March 15th to choose the candidate for mayor, but in the meantime there are many things to do for the city. «Entering Palazzo San Giorgio wearing the role of the mayor declares Battaglia – in those same environments where my father governed is clearly a significant blow to the heart, because I did it since I was a child, when everyone called me Mimmetto and they still do it today despite my venerable age. For me it is a great emotion to experience the city with a considerable load of responsibility and burdens. Even if for a few months it means facing enormous work to keep up with the many construction sites nearing completion. The Pnrr and Pon Metro funds are bearing good fruit. We will open the little bridge over Calopinace by March 15th. And then the Sangiovannello gym, the Catona field, the vegetable gardens in Viale Calabria and lots of equipped greenery will be ready. Great effort is also poured into the Sea Museum which is progressing very quickly. In short, we are following up on the 10-year program that the center-left had put in place, including the constituencies, the regulations of which we will complete in the next few days and the new territorial bodies will be elected together with the renewal of the city council.”
