The level of entertainment on the pitches of Piazza Duomo is growing now that we are approaching the hot phases of the Futures valid for the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour. Excellent plays that the public from the double stands shows they appreciate with continuous applause.
In the women’s competition the scoreboard aligns with the semi-finals that they see Reka Orsi Toth/Giada Bianchi the only blue couple still in the running. Today against the Germans Grune and Christ will go in search of the final encore, this time hoping to write a different epilogue. The winners of the last edition Bianchin/Scampioli stop in the quarterfinals. In the other semi-final clash between the Teutonic Kozych/Schenider and the Estonian Hollas/Remmelg.

In the men’s tournament, Dal Corso/Viscovich another leading couple in 2023 are in the semi-finals after eliminating the revelations of the Alfieri/Andreatta tournament, capable of winning the pool and reaching the quarterfinals after having passed the qualifiers. The Germans Sowa and Just are their next opponent. The Italians Krumins/Caminati, Marchetto/Windisch are out in the quarterfinals.
The semi-final of the lower part will see the Dutch Sengers/Boehlè and the Benzi-Bonifazi couple as protagonists.

The men’s semi-finals are scheduled this morning at 12.30pm and 1.10pm while the finals will be played at 2.50pm (for 3rd place) and 4.30pm (the grand final). In the women’s field, the semi-finals are at 10am and 10.50am while the finals are scheduled for 2pm and 3.40pm.

In the morning, during the breaks between one match and another, we heard from Luigi Dell’Anna, federal manager of the Italian beach volleyball teams. «We had no doubts about the perfect organization of Futures because the machine is well tested. There has been a large amount of public participation in recent days and seeing the stands full transmits even more stimulus and energy to the athletes on the field. For the future we will see if we can organize an international stage of an even higher level because the city deserves it.”

In a month (from 26 July to 9 August) the curtain will rise on the Paris Olympics: the Italian beach volleyball team will face them with three couples and what are the expectations. «I am confident in the boys’ ability to assert themselves. The opposing competition is high, the Scandinavian pairs are among the most popular but ours too, see Nicolai-Cottafava in the men’s and Menegatti/Gottardi in the women’s, have what it takes to aim for a good result. Meanwhile, the three couples are following an agreed training program and in the first two weeks of July they will make two elite 16 stages in Gstaad in Switzerland and in Vienna (Austria). Upon their return they will complete their preparation in the federal centers before leaving for Paris.”

The president of the Fipav committee of Messina, Alessandro Zurro, smiles at the city’s response and tells us: «Here in Piazza Duomo these days there is great enthusiasm with numerous presences in the double grandstand but also on the sidelines of the fields. We are proud of the presence in Messina of the national president of Fipav Giuseppe Manfredi and the vice president of Cev, Renato Arena. The icing on the cake of the great work that the organizational machine has been carrying out in all its components for weeks.”
