Still focus on love dynamics in the closing film of the festival “Till night do us part” Of Richard Antonaroliin theaters from August 29 with 01 Distribution. Inspired by the Israeli «Honeymood» (Taya Lavie), presented in Taormina in 2021, it narrates the surreal nocturnal odyssey through the streets of Rome of Eleonora (Pilar Fogliati) and Valerio (Filippo Scicchitano), newlyweds whose honeymoon is put into question by a situation that triggers Eleonora’s jealousy. Thus a wild night becomes a search for something or for oneself.
“The story tells the story of the Millennial generation,” said the director. “The precarious workers who live in constant expectation of something and, in comparison with their parents, fuel an omnipresent uncertainty about the future.” “Eleonora is in love with her husband,” said Fogliati, “but she can’t say that it will be forever, finding herself at the crossroads of making one life choice while excluding another.” “Valerio is a romantic, but also excessively methodical,” Scicchitano intervenes, “and when the unexpected happens he will find himself in a panic situation that will put him in crisis.”
The popular magic of Sicilian folklore narrated with a director, cast and locations from Palermo «The Mouth of the Soul» by Giuseppe Carleo (section “Officina Sicilia”). Filmed between Petralia Sottana, Madonie Natural Park and Isola delle Femminetells the story of the young Giovanni Velasques (Maziar Firouzi), who in a small mountain village in Sicily after the Second World War becomes a magician after turning to the elderly sorceress Mariannina (Serena Barone) to heal from a physical pain. He will acquire authority but will end up clashing with the ecclesiastical and mafia powers.
“We felt the urgency to look at that popular magic with which we had experienced a profound communion – Carleo told the press – We wanted to tell the story of the figure of the traditional healer, before the advent of the technological world compromised it by making it bourgeois”. Fundamental was the comparison between Carleo and co-screenwriter Carlo Cannella with anthropologist Elsa Guggino, whose texts “La magia in Sicilia” and “Il corpo è fatto di sillabe – Figures of magicians in Sicily” (published by Sellerio) inspired the documentation work. The cast also includes Marilù Pipitone, Maurizio Bologna and Sergio Vespertino. “La bocca dell’anima” will be in theaters from September 26 for Artex Film.
