Bitter Sunday for Reggina who did not go beyond the draw in Caltanissetta. It ends 1-1, a match heavily influenced by what appears to be an obvious refereeing error which had generated Nissa’s opening goal.
At the end of the first half, match director Pani di Sassari whistled a penalty for an alleged foul by goalkeeper Lagonigro on Diaz. There appears to be no impact between the outgoing goalkeeper and the attacker who, from a tight angle, had kicked high towards the goal well before the two were close.
The attacker made no mistakes from the spot and put the Sicilians ahead. In the second half the Amaranths, after a less than brilliant performance, managed to find the equaliser. Foul on Urso in the area and from the spot Curiale, as soon as he entered, gave the Amaranths the equalizer.
At the end of the match Trocini’s team tried to bring home the victory, but apart from a few scrums there were no great scoring opportunities. It ends with another failure that weighs heavily on the rankings: The Amaranths see the top move further away (Syracuse victorious and now at +6), but also the second place (Scafatese +3).
The many absences due to injury and adverse events have not made Reggina’s task any easier, but they still don’t seem to have found their feet.
