A social-health worker was stabbed in Reggio Calabria, in the pneumology department of the Gom hospital. The episode occurred this morning when a 63-year-old patient, originally from Reggio Calabria, attacked the 43-year-old operator, slightly injuring him in the arm. The police from the mobile radio unit intervened on site and blocked the attacker. Having alerted the public prosecutor on duty, the sixty-two-year-old was placed under house arrest in the same department where the events occurred.
Fortunately, the victim suffered only minor injuries that healed in seven days. The reasons why the patient hit the healthcare worker with a knife or other sharp instrument are still unclear. The investigations will clarify what happened inside the pneumology department and how it was possible that the attacker could have managed to bring in, or in any case use, a bladed weapon against the victim.
