Calabria, from the big growth works and 140 thousand jobs

The history of the South and Calabria was rewritten by Istat in the statistics of the January employment. The new year has arisen in the midst of changing diagrams with a national rate of people employed by 62.8%, a summit never climbed in the past. And even more important is that the projections (pending official estimates for macro -areas) see so much contribution of the South in this virtuous path of development. A hypothesis that is strengthened in the latest report of the National Institute for the analysis of public policies from which a found productive (and employment) dynamism emerges with a path of growth inspired, above all, by public funds. In 2024, in the South, the growth of employees was +4.2%, compared to a more modest +1.8% recorded in the northern macro area, traditionally more virtuous. Of course, the historical gaps remain between the north and the south of the country but, unlike the past, the South grows faster than the rest of the country. The royal employment rate, in 2024, referred to the first half of the year, finds itself in the elaboration of the “Tagliacne” Study Center which allowed to estimate an overall figure within the southern macro area in an employment rate of 47.9% against 61.9% of the country. And Calabria, in the first half of 2024, had closed with 44.3%.

But the comeback continues. And, now, 2025 is a candidate to represent the decisive joint towards changes and upheavals, visions and forecasts, which will also be combined in Calabria, a promised land of renewal. The sudden vampiata of well -being generated by Istat’s forecast accelerated that paradigm change that is lived in the South and Calabria, in particular, where, finally, the great works have been designed and realized that, for years, had rested in peace in the uncomfortable cemetery. The push that comes from the funds of the PNRR and the Single Zes has already generated estimates of growth and jobs. On the table there are structural interventions intended to give new impulses to the Calabrian production sector. A list of projects that will serve to fill the infrastructure gap that in the past has conditioned the growth of the region with the rest of Italy through faster connections between Calabria, Basilicata, Sicily, Campania and Puglia.
