French Guiana (geographically it is in South America, but politically it belongs to France), Calabria and Campania are the regions with the highest rates of risk of poverty or social exclusion in Europe.

This is what emerges from the data released by Eurostat relating to 2024. After French Guiana (59.5%), Calabria records a vulnerability rate of 48.8%, followed by the autonomous Spanish city of Melilla (44.5%) and Campania (43.5%). The South is thus confirmed among the most fragile areas of Europe: Calabria and Campania exceed the EU average of 21% by more than double; Sicily (40.9%) and Puglia (37.7%) are also well above the critical threshold of 33%.
