Caruso indignant: “After the Hub hospital was stolen in Cosenza, I will continue the battle to protect citizens’ right to health”

“Our healthcare system is suffering from an emergency crisis that is spreading like wildfire day after day and which in Cosenza and its vast province is also due to the failure to build the new HUB hospital, to which the Arcavacata university hospital was preferred. It is a real theft that they want to perpetrate to the detriment of our communities on which, with extreme bitterness, I register the indifference of politics first and foremost, but also, unfortunately, of the citizens, probably, the latter, animated by a feeling of anti-politics which pushes them towards apathy so much so as to reach very high percentages of abstention from voting which is a real weakness in democracy”. This was stated by Mayor Franz Caruso who continues: “The announcement that the second level Hub will be moved to another location is not and cannot be passed off as a bell tower problem, also because I have always maintained that Cosenza is and must represent the engine of development of a much larger area than the urban one itself. However, stealing from the capital city a fundamental healthcare facility such as the second level Hub Hospital is, in my opinion, harmful not only to the image of the capital city, but above all for the health of citizens. The new hospital, in fact, modern and adapted to European standards to fully and effectively respond to the needs of public health protection, had to have a completely different development because it had to serve a much larger area, that is, the metropolitan one, which embraces the Serre, the Savuto, the Presila and the Media Valle del Crati. I am truly very sorry that there was no response to this issue right responsiveness on the part of my community, which probably needs to be better encouraged and involved. However, I will not give up on continuing the battle to have a second level Hub hospital worthy of the name in Cosenza. I will do it with conviction and determination, even alone, for a matter of extreme responsibility which is inherent in my role as Mayor with respect to the protection of the health of my fellow citizens”.
