Two more announcements and the first work session on the pitch, strictly with the ball. The new Catanzaro is starting to take on a better defined, even if not definitive, appearance. Because after the hiring of Volpe yesterday evening it was the turn of Federico Bonini and Mattia Compagnon just as both were completing the afternoon training at the “Ceravolo” with their new teammates and the new coach Fabio Caserta, under the eyes of president Noto (at the beginning of the session) and ds Polito (at the end).
The two reinforcements had been finalized for over a week, they were just waiting for the official confirmation that the club chose to stagger over the course of an hour.
Federico Bonini, 22 years old, from Massa in Tuscany, is a rare commodity: left-footed central defenders who know how to play the ball well are not found everywhere and are always very useful. Especially if, like the boy taken on loan but with an obligation to buy from Virtus Entella (39 games and three goals in the last tournament), he already has a fair amount of experience in Serie C and in the youth national teams. Many wanted him (Bari and Sudtirol above all), and DS Ciro Polito took him and made him sign a four-year contract.
“Catanzaro is a prestigious, well-known place and I am proud to be here – explained the defender -. I was waiting for this call and when it arrived I was very happy”. Among Federico’s characteristics, also his skill in the aerial game.
The transfer modality of Mattia Compagnon from Juventus is more complex: it is a loan with right of redemption (and option for counter-redemption held by the Old Lady), which would become an obligation if certain conditions were met: if he were to remain in Giallorossi, he would have a five-year contract ready. Mattia is another player who had a long list of suitors in Serie B after the excellent year spent at Feralpisalò (29 games, five goals). He is dribbling and creativity starting from the right midfield to move inside and strike with his left, as Catanzaro himself knows well, punished in the clash in Piacenza against Brescia, in January, when Mattia, from Friuli in 2001, scored one of the opponents’ three goals.
Raised in Udinese, then moved to Potenza and taken by Juve to wean him in the Next Gen team (61 matches, 13 goals) Compagnon can cover multiple roles in attack: «I especially like playing on the wing, but also “under striker” or in the three-quarter line, to take on the man, skip him and go for the conclusion. The experience in Juventus – he added – has shaped me a lot, it has taught me above all professionalism. Of the Bianconeri I have admired Dybala a lot, in recent years Vlahovic, As for the Catanzaro crowd, I was very impressed by the warmth, especially at the stadium, and they spoke very highly of the city and its fans».
In the next few hours. The medical visits of the former Palermo goalkeeper Mirko Pigliacelli have been postponed to this morning: after passing this step, he will sign a two-year contract with an option. The definition of the future of Pigliacelli is expected in the next few hours. Thomas Biasci: the club wants to extend his contract, but both he and the Giallorossi have received a large offer from Cesena. They will have to discuss it.
