The electoral commission has given the go-ahead to grant honorary citizenship to the Cardinal and Metropolitan Archbishop of Naples, Monsignor Domenico Battaglia, who in the first days of the new year will be awarded the honor during a solemn ceremony in the red hall of Palazzo de Nobili.

The formal transition into the council body, provided for by the specific regulation, was sanctioned in a meeting chaired by the President of the Municipal Council, Gianmichele Bosco, and by the deputy mayor with responsibility for demographic services, Giusy Iemma, together with the councilors who are members of the commission Antonio Barberio and Igea Caviano and, as substitute, Emanuele Ciciarello.

“By conferring honorary citizenship on Don Mimmo Battaglia, we choose to recognize not just a person, but a way of being a shepherd, a man, a guide. Don Mimmo Battaglia knew how to speak to the least without ever forgetting anyone, giving a voice to those who often have none, walking alongside fragilities with respect, courage and humanity. His commitment to social justice, to the dignity of people, to a Church that listens and welcomes, represents a high example of service to the common good”, this is the declaration put in black and white by the deputy mayor Iemma.

The conference of group leaders will meet in the next few days to proceed with the scheduling of the session specifically dedicated to the awarding of honorary citizenship.
