The latest robberies against hunters, which took place on the morning of 14 December, have contributed to raising even more, if possible, the attention of institutions and public opinion on a phenomenon that is causing concern in a vast territory between the provinces of Reggio Calabria and Vibo Valentia.
Last Sunday alone, on the SP52 between Laureana di Borrello and Rosarno, seven hunters were subjected to assault and armed robbery. And then the episodes in the Melicucco area in the following hours.
A long list that does not leave the hunting world at peace and also creates apprehension among motorists and farmers who regularly travel on those roads.
The investigations by the Carabinieri of the Gioia Tauro Company are evaluating some details reported in the complaints. First of all, one of the cars used by the criminals would be a green Skoda “Fabia” presumably recently repainted (as per the residue found on the victim’s car) and with the license plate on a card attached to the rear side. The markedly Pianigian accent of one of the robbers would then dispel the hypothesis of a commando composed of citizens of foreign origin. Finally, the possibility of some traces left by the attackers themselves during the attacks is being verified.
Furthermore, according to some victims, during the robbery other cars passed on the road and one of these was stopped for a further robbery at the same time. As regards the methods of the robberies, there would be no major differences compared to those reported in October and November.
