Seventeen artistic performances, twelve in -depth talk, two workshops. The numbers of the Performing Festival tell, already by themselves, the impact that the initiative has had on the city of Catanzaro. But to tell the importance of the Festival is above all the quality of the guests that Performing brought to the three hills, enclosing in three weeks events of world -class artistic and cultural caliber.

This is testified by the dozens of national and international press articles that have underlined how the Performing Festival brought Catanzaro and therefore Calabria to the center of the contemporary art scene throughout the month of May.

Names like that of Regina José GalindoOf Ekici NezketOf Daniela OrtizOf Orlan They captured so much the attention of the public already accustomed to the performance of artists so established, as the interest of a wider audience, arousing curiosity towards forms of artistic expression that Catanzaro had never experienced so far. The talks, then, through the vision of the artists hosted, made it possible to open the debate both on issues strictly linked to the city (such as the urban redevelopment of abandoned areas), and on global topical issues, such as the Israeli-Palestinian question, migratory policies and individual female freedom.

Of extraordinary cultural importance therefore both the performances and the opportunities for comparison and in -depth analysis available to the students and students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Catanzaro. The institution, promoter of the event, has in fact intended to invest in the city and its unexpressed potential, setting up an ambitious, stimulating, high profile review, demonstrating on the one hand that the South and Calabria have skills, skills and professionalism to welcome great events; And on the other that the social and cultural suburbs in which the city has been confined to decades has been a fence from which it is possible to escape.

An investment on the city, therefore, because the festival has not only had a relapse on the Calabrian cultural fabric, but also on the Catanzaro economic fabric: the commercial and accommodation activities of the historic center of the regional capital have in fact directly benefited from the activities of the Festival, with tangible results in terms of reservations and provision of services.

It was tiring yes, but the festival leaves us great satisfaction. I would call it a great training experience for the whole context in which the Academy of Fine Arts operates, an experience that in my opinion also served to allow the Afam sector to shorten the distances from the artistic system and that of culture. It was one of our goals: from here we start again for new goals, both as an academy and as a sector“, he said Simona Caramiaprofessor of the Academy of Catanzaro and scientific contact person of the entire Performing project.

Enthusiastic Virgilio Piccaridirector of the Academy: “Life, as usual, is always ready to offer tools capable of composing arias that cheer the most restless souls -commented at the end of the event -. The Academy of Catanzaro has offered moments that will remain in the heart of those who are able to listen to them and those who have had the opportunity to offer the pulse of their body by opening it towards new horizons. Artists from every corner of the world have intended to offer their knowledge, telling how much artistic research turns out to be a language capable of shaking consciences by opening gates of hermeneutic temporality. The performance, based on the improvisation of the artist and the involvement of the public, has left in our students and in all participants, deep traces of creative reflection. Grateful and proud for what has been produced, once again I believe it is right to thank the entire academic community for the great effort made, ensuring that the commitment will continue until this extraordinary team is still in my person confidence and esteem».

To relive performers’ emotions, all the multimedia material is available on the official website www.ptmgfestival.com and on the social pages of the project (FB: Performing Festival; IG: @Prmg_Festival).
