A human gesture that did not go unnoticed occurred on the night between last Saturday and Sunday in the Lido district of Catanzaro, where a patrol of the police station’s Flying Squad gave protection to a foreign minor who asked them for help, surprised by the wave of frost and now at the end of his strength. The officers immediately rescued him, only to discover, after comforting him and helping him recover, that he had wandered away from a community and ended up wandering without a specific destination.
The gesture was greeted with appreciation by the provincial general secretary of the FSP State Police, Rocco Morelli: «What happened is yet another confirmation that the State Police is a defense of security, but above all a defense of humanity. Colleagues interpreted in an exemplary way the highest meaning of our service: to protect anyone who needs it, without distinction, especially when it comes to vulnerable and alone minors.”
Morelli underlines how the agents’ intervention was not limited to formal activity: «The choice to welcome that boy in the service car, to offer him listening, warmth and reassurance, is an act that goes beyond the operational routine. It is concrete testimony to the professionalism and ethics that guide the women and men of the State Police, despite the difficulties and chronic staff shortages that we are often forced to deal with.”
The FSP secretary also highlights the effectiveness of the institutional network activated in the middle of the night: «The prompt intervention of the Prefecture, of the officials on duty and of the community workers who welcomed the minor demonstrates that, when everyone does their part, the State responds».
