Ryanair aims to double its air base in Reggio Calabria, increasing the number of aircraft based at 'Tito Minniti' to two. The CEO of the Irish company Eddie Wilson said this today in a press conference, saying he was “literally in love with Reggio and Calabria”. Also present at the meeting with journalists, which took place at 'Tito Minniti', were the President of the Region, Roberto Occhiuto, and the CEO of Sacal, the management company of the three Calabrian airports, Marco Francini.
Wilson had words of praise for all the group's airport workers “for their hard work and commitment”, appreciating the courageous choice “of president Occhiuto, who allowed this result to be achieved, relaunching Sacal”.

The CEO of Ryanair spoke of “palpable enthusiasm, as some tourist operators and press articles tell us”, approving the request of the President of the Region regarding the reduction of the airport municipal tax. “When it is removed – said Eddie Wilson – we will be the first to respond, first of all with a daily flight to Milan”. The CEO of Ryanair, concluding his speech, confirmed the carrier's commitment “to all three airports in Calabria, and not just Reggio”, anticipating that next June he will return on holiday to Calabria.

Occhiuto's satisfaction

“I asked to evaluate the possibility of adding a route to Milan or Bergamo to the routes currently operated by Ryanair from Reggio Calabria. Furthermore, the Region is committed to evaluating other investment possibilities by the company which could be realized through the establishment of a base for aircraft maintenance or a base for training pilots and staff would be very important because it would make the union between Calabria and Ryanair more structural” said President Occhiuto. The request is therefore to insert another route from Reggio Calabria to Bergamo or Milan. “They say in the winter but I hope it can be included earlier,” said Occhiuto. “Other airlines? We are also talking to other low-cost and national airlines. There are multiple dossiers open with multiple airlines. We are working to facilitate mobility from Messina and eastern Sicily. There are discussions between Sacal, the Region and the company that manages connections in the Strait.
