The Itala city council met again with a budget change on the agenda to organize the “Notte Bianca” event during the Christmas period and, above all, the evaluations on the temporary operational junction planned to connect Via San Giacomo di Itala Marina with the A18 following the works for the doubling of the “Messina – Catania” railway line. A junction whose project was however rejected by the Ministry of the Environment which deemed it unfeasible “due to the environmental impact, the critical issues resulting from it and its real usefulness”.
While the budget change passed unanimously, the assessments on this temporary release were conflicting. For the mayor of Itala, Daniele Laudini, the Mase provision is wrong as the Commission that examined the project only took into account the alleged critical issues that would have arisen if the project had been approved. «For this reason – announced Laudini, together with the Municipality of Scaletta and against the negative opinion of the Ministry – we will appeal to the Regional Administrative Court of Catania».
