The awards ceremony of the literary competition dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Saverio Strati, entitled “Significant life, equity and justice in the thought of Saverio Strati”, took place in the Aula Magna of the “Scorza” Scientific High School in Cosenza, packed for the occasion.
The initiative, promoted by the Italian Association of Cultural Parks of Cosenza (AIPaRC), chaired by Tania Frisone, and by the Italian Association of Spouses of Engineers (AICI), led by Gianfranca Cosenza, saw the collaboration of the Municipality of Casali del Manco and the participation of the director of the Regional School Office Loredana Giannicola.
The value of the word and the roots
The competition, created to introduce young people to the figure and legacy of the great Calabrian storyteller, underlined the relevance of his message of dignity, justice and loyalty to one’s values. In Strati’s works, poor but proud Calabria becomes a symbol of redemption and humanity. All the winning works, together with the contributions of intellectuals and scholars, are collected in the volume “Parco Literario Saverio Strati” by the publisher Francesco Alimena.
The awards
Among the winners stand out the students of the “Gioacchino da Fiore” Classical High School in Rende, who obtained important recognitions: Emma Ludovica Corbelli (Special Mention), Antonio Petrassi (Special Prize), Ludovica Sposato and Emanuele Perretti. Great satisfaction for the director Brunella Baratta and for the accompanying teachers, prof. Ada Giorno and prof. Giuseppe Leonetti, who shared the joy of success with the students in a spontaneous embrace at the moment of the award ceremony.
The president of the jury Marilù Sprovieri and the secretary Maria Ventura presented the prizes, in the presence of the writer Palma Comandè, nephew of Saverio Strati. A recognition that renews the bond between the new generations and the great Calabrian literature.
