He would have died suffocated if he had not been promptly rescued: happy ending in Cosenza for a teacher who was with the schoolchild at the caravan event against the precariousness organized by Uil. During the refreshment, the woman ingested something that prevented her from breathing risking to suffocate: fortunately the police commissioner Franco Gagliardi, in service to the Digos of the Cosenza police headquarters, agreed with what was happening and intervened to help the lady practicing her the unblocking maneuver of Heimlick.

The mayor Franz Caruso expressed his gratitude and congratulations against the commissioner of the State Police, Franco Gagliardi, to have, in the past few weeks, thanks to the timeliness of his intervention, promptly rescued a town that had accused an illness in Piazza dei Bruzi, a stone’s throw from the town hall, while the “caravan of the Uil’s public event was underway – against the precariousness”, saving her life. The facts date back to a few weeks ago, when at the end of the Uil manifestation, during a refreshment that had been offered by the organizers in Piazza dei Bruzi to all the defendants, a teacher who had accompanied his school group to the event, had been caught by illness, manifesting clear symptoms of suffocation, evidently due to something he had ingested and who prevented her from breathing. It was at that point that the commissioner of the State Police, Franco Gagliardi, in service at the Digos of the Cosenza Police Headquarters, collected the invocations of help from some people who had noticed the incident. Realizing the gravity of the situation, the police commissioner immediately worked to intervene and practiced the Heimlich maneuver to the lady in danger of life, which allowed to revive it, favoring the breathing and resume consciousness; Gagliardi’s assistance continued until the ambulance arrives who transported the teacher to the emergency room for further medical investigations.

“I congratulate the Commissioner Gagliardi – stressed Franz Caruso – for his commendable gesture that allowed to save the life of our fellow citizens. The intervention of the State Police officer – added Franz Caruso – has proved to be providential and is the tangible sign of a generosity of mind and a promptness of spirit that in a dangerous situation, like the one that had been created.
